Penny was a kind, wise and loving person who was hugely loved by her family and her many friends. She was the beloved daughter of Jocelyn and the late Dick Letts, irreplaceable sister of Melinda, Alexander and Quentin, a cherished sister-in-law and aunt, and the most wonderful mother to Anthony, Hugo and Georgia, as well as to Anthony's wife Maia and Hugo's fiancée Bex. As Housemistress of St Austin's, Cheltenham, she gave unstintingly of herself to generations of girls who were lucky enough to pass through her care. After her diagnosis of breast cancer in May 2015, Penny underwent 9 months of chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy, sustained by her characteristic courage and good humour. She returned to work in September 2016 for a final year before retirement, and was enjoying being back with the girls while also looking forward to all the new opportunities that retirement would bring. But on 3rd May 2017 she was told that the cancer had returned, and six days later it claimed her life. Penny is terribly missed by us all, and we've set up this page to raise as much money as possible for research into the cruel disease that took her from us so prematurely and robbed her of so much that she had to look forward to.
