In memory of Justine Derry

So far we have raised

£26,805.85

27/11/1969 - 16/12/2009
Over 4 years ago we created a tribute fund with Breast Cancer Care, called "ForJustine". The purpose of the fund is to strengthen the information and support services available to young women who are diagnosed with primary and secondary breast cancer, with a particular emphasis upon diet and nutrition, fitness and exercise, complimentary therapy and fertility. The fund will support Breast Cancer Care's activities online, in print and through services that allow people to get personal support. Whilst the fund has its own specific aims all donations will go direct to Breast Cancer Care.

Justine was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 30 and subsequently diagnosed with secondary breast cancer 7 years later. Justine was the most amazing, generous and positive person - she never stopped making everyone smile. Whilst Justine received considerable medical treatment, the significant changes that Justine made to her lifestyle and diet and the strength that she gained from alternative and complimentary therapy helped her to keep on enjoying the things that she really loved in her life.

Breast cancer is relatively uncommon among younger women, eighty per cent of cases of breast cancer in the UK are in women over 50. Very few women in their 20s and 30s are faced with secondary breast cancer - for which there is no cure. Younger women can have very different medical and support requirements and concerns, and because of their relatively low numbers they can feel isolated following their diagnosis. Anyone with breast cancer or breast health concerns can get free, confidential support and information from the Breast Cancer Care helpline on 0808 800 6000, open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 9am-2pm.

Since creating the ForJustine tribute fund we have raised over £25,000. These funds have been used by Breast Cancer Care to support younger women in a variety of ways, including funding a number of new 'Younger Women with Secondary Breast Cancer' Forums that provide an incredible level of personal face to face support across the UK. If anyone is able to make a donation, big or small, we would all be very grateful.

Kilimanjaro Trek 12 June 2014. After 50 miles of walking to base camp we set off at 11:15pm on Wednesday and got to the summit of Kilimanjaro at 6:15am Thursday morning. A long walk down to camp for 3:00pm made it a very tiring day. Many thanks to you all for your kind donations, much appreciated.
